Emergency and Critical Care Medicine Holds Its Sixth Editorial Board Meeting

On November 25, Emergency and Critical Care Medicine (ECCM; CN 37-1533/R, ISSN 2097-0617, Online ISSN 2693-860X) convened its Sixth Editorial Board Meeting in a hybrid online-and-offline format.
The meeting was attended by 42 editorial board members and young editorial board members from five countries, including Professor Chen Yuguo, Editor-in-Chief of ECCM and President of Qilu Hospital of Shandong University; Co-Editors-in-Chief Professor Abdelouahab Bellou of Wayne State University, USA, and Professor Giuseppe Citerio of the University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy; Associate Editors Professor Ma Xinliang of Thomas Jefferson University, USA, Professor Lü Chuanzhu of Sichuan Academy of Medical Sciences & Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital, and Professor Ren Jun of Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University; Editorial Board Members Professor Xu Feng of Qilu Hospital of Shandong University, Professor Pan Shuming of Putuo District Central Hospital affiliated with Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Professor Zeng Hongke of Guangdong Academy of Medical Sciences & Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital, Professor Shao Fei of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, Capital Medical University, Professor Teng Zhongzhao of Fuyao University of Science and Technology, Professor Wang Yajing of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA, and Professor Said Hachimi-Idrissi of Ghent University Hospital, Belgium, among others.
The meeting was chaired by Professor Wei Shujian, Executive Editor of ECCM. Also in attendance were Sun Yao, Director of the Medical Journals Center of Shandong University Press of Science and Technology Journals, Ms. Feng Changhong, Publisher from Wolters Kluwer, and members of the editorial office.

In his opening remarks, Professor Chen Yuguo expressed sincere appreciation to the Co-Editors-in-Chief, editorial board members, and participating experts for their long-standing support of the journal. He also extended a warm welcome to the newly appointed Co-Editor-in-Chief, Professor Giuseppe Citerio. Reviewing ECCM’s progress over the past year, Professor Chen emphasized the importance of focusing on future development and improvement, noting that both the Editorial Board and the Young Editorial Board serve as the backbone of the journal’s growth. He encouraged continued collective support to further enhance the journal’s international influence. Professor Chen also highlighted the need to pool the wisdom of the academic community in expanding the international editorial team, improving manuscript quality, and increasing the journal’s impact factor, with the goal of building a high-level research exchange platform in the field of emergency and critical care medicine and ultimately advancing the publicity, innovation and development of research in this field.

Professor Abdelouahab Bellou affirmed ECCM’s achievements in database indexing and international conference promotion, and proposed diversifying invited submissions and outreach channels. He emphasized leveraging academic societies to engage more experts and called on participants to actively contribute high-quality manuscripts to the themed sections on Cardiac Arrest and Global Emergency Care, in order to further enhance the journal’s visibility and impact and better serve researchers and clinicians worldwide.
During the meeting, Professor Giuseppe Citerio was formally appointed as Co-Editor-in-Chief of ECCM. In his remarks, Professor Citerio stated that, drawing on his extensive academic experience and service with leading international journals, he would share strategies for attracting high-quality submissions, optimizing peer review processes, and increasing journal exposure. He expressed his commitment to close collaboration with fellow editors and the publisher to support ECCM’s continued advancement and elevate the journal to a higher level.
Sun Yao thanked the editorial board members and young editorial board members for their contributions, welcomed the newly appointed Co-Editor-in-Chief, and affirmed that Shandong University Press of Science and Technology Journals would continue to provide policy and resource support while working closely with the publisher to optimize services. She also encouraged editorial board members to recommend more high-quality clinical research to jointly promote the journal’s development.
Ms. Feng Changhong reviewed the journal’s publication data, academic impact, and marketing performance, and offered development strategies and recommendations from the publisher’s perspective.
Professor Wei Shujian systematically summarized ECCM’s achievements and challenges, reporting on progress in editorial board development, manuscript submissions, and promotion efforts. He noted a steady increase in submissions and a significant expansion in the geographic diversity of contributing countries, and emphasized that future efforts would rely on the academic resources of the Editorial Board and Young Editorial Board to strengthen thematic planning and international dissemination.
During the discussion session, editorial board members and young editorial board members actively shared insights and recommendations on academic development, content innovation, thematic planning, editorial board strengthening, and communication strategies, engaging in in-depth dialogue on the journal’s future direction.
In his concluding remarks, Professor Chen Yuguo expressed his gratitude to all participating editors and young editors for their valuable support, and urged the editorial office to promptly implement the constructive suggestions raised during the meeting.
