Chen Xin Meets Delegation of Leading International Experts in Laboratory Medicine

The 19th National Conference on Laboratory Medicine of the Chinese Medical Association was held in Jinan from October 30 to November 1, 2025. As the highest-level academic event in China’s laboratory medicine community, the conference brought together top experts and scholars from home and abroad, attracting more than ten thousand professionals to Jinan to share this academic gathering. During the conference, Chen Xin, Chairman of the College Council of Cheeloo Medical College of Shandong University and Chairman of the Hospital Council of Qilu Hospital of Shandong University, met with a delegation composed of presidents of laboratory medicine societies from Italy, the United States, and several Asia-Pacific countries. Both sides held productive discussions on deepening international cooperation in the field of laboratory medicine and reached important consensus.
The meeting brought together a strong lineup of international experts, including Prof. Ozben, President of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC); Prof. Adeli, former IFCC President; Prof. Badrick, President of the Asia-Pacific Federation for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine (APFCB); and Prof. Killeen, former President of the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM). Also attending were the presidents of the laboratory medicine societies of Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and other countries. The two sides held in-depth discussions on frontier developments, international collaboration, and talent cultivation in laboratory medicine, and reached preliminary cooperation agreements.
During the meeting, Chen Xin provided a comprehensive overview of the development and future plans of Qilu Hospital. He noted that Qilu Hospital of Shandong University, founded in 1890, is one of China’s oldest century-old medical institutions. The hospital has consistently upheld the concept of high-quality development, fully aligned with national strategic priorities, and pursued new growth with an international vision. He emphasized that strengthening international cooperation has always been a key direction of the hospital’s development. Qilu Hospital attaches great importance to innovation in laboratory medicine and is actively promoting the deep integration of laboratory medicine with cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data. These efforts aim to accelerate the strategic transformation from traditional “data output” to intelligent “value creation.” He added that the hospital will continue to adopt an open and collaborative approach, leveraging mechanisms such as “going global” and “bringing in” to engage deeply in international exchanges, draw on global best practices, continuously improve its talent cultivation system, and build an even stronger and more pragmatic international cooperation network.
Representing the international delegation, IFCC President Prof. Ozben highly commended Qilu Hospital’s development philosophy and achievements, and offered valuable suggestions on the future directions of laboratory medicine. He expressed the hope that this meeting would serve as a new starting point for strengthening the exchange of advanced technologies among experts worldwide, deepening cooperation, complementing one another’s strengths, and working together to promote the development of the field.
